About The Dopies
The Dopies (also known as the DOPE Cup) were Dope Magazine's annual cannabis industry awards, recognizing outstanding brands, products, and individuals across the cannabis space. Unlike product-competition awards that focused only on flower or concentrate quality, The Dopies took a broader view, honoring marketing, branding, social impact, and business excellence.
The High Times Acquisition
In 2018, DOPE Magazine was acquired by High Times for $11.2 million. The acquisition consolidated two of the most recognized cannabis media brands under one roof. While High Times continued running the Cannabis Cup competition, the standalone DOPE Cup awards ceremony was discontinued after its 2019 edition.
The DOPE brand survives in a reduced form: the "DOPE Award" is presented at Cannabis Cup ceremonies as a special recognition, but it is no longer the centerpiece of its own awards event.
